Some issues get swept under the radar.
“On Thursday, June 26, the Commission on Election (Comelec) claimed it is not singling out Senator Joseph Victor ‘JV’ Ejercito in its ongoing overspending probe for the candidates of the 2013 senatorial polls,” reports Samuel P. Medenilla in Tempo.
Comelec Chairman Sixto Brillantes denied the allegation Comelec’s Campaign Finance Unit (CFU) is conducting a special probe for Ejercito.
Brillantes was quoted as saying, “Yes, we are investigating him. But not only him. All the 33 senatorial candidates in 2013, we are investigating the SOCEs (Statements of Contributions and Expenditures) they submitted to us.”
He added, “We are not investigating him alone. It is just part of the work of the Campaign Finance Unit (CFU) to review all SOCE submissions. We are not pinpointing any one in particular.”
The Comelec had earlier issued an en banc resolution, which ousted Laguna Gov. Emilio Ramon “ER” Ejercito, JV’s cousin, for a similar electoral violation.
