Laguna Gov. ER Ejercito has to go, says Comelec

He may have played Boy Golden, but his world looks black right now.

“On Wednesday, May 21, the Commission on Elections en banc voted 7-0 to disqualify Laguna Gov. ER Ejercito for overspending in the 2013 elections,” reports ABS-CBNnews.com

The Comelec en banc’s decision affirmed the First Division’s earlier ruling that Ejercito overspent in the last election.

Actor-politician Ejercito has five days to file a motion for temporary restraining order (TRO) before the Supreme Court to stop the implementation of the Comelec decision.

The report explained that Edgar San Luis of the Liberal Party first filed the petition for disqualification against Ejercito due to overspending during the campaign.

San Luis pointed out that while Ejercito was allowed to spend only PHP4.5 million or P3 for each of the 1,525,522 voters in Laguna during the campaign, he actually spent more than PHP20 million.

The Comelec confirmed that the governor spent PHP23,563,365 for his entire campaign.

Unless there are finding contradicting the Comelec’s decision, it looks like Vice Governor Ramil Hernandez will take over as the new Laguna governor.
