Comelec list shows 8 candidates for President

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has released an initial list of candidates for the 2016 elections.

While media has focused on the activities of five presidential candidates, it turns out that there are more candidates for the highest position in the land.

The following are on the list of presidential candidates (in alphabetical order):

1. Jejomar Binay of the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA)

2. Rodrigo Duterte of Partido Demokratiko Pilipino – Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban)

3. Mel Mendoza of Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino (PMP)

4. Grace Poe, independent

5. Mar Roxas of the Liberal Party (LP)

6. Miriam Defensor Santiago of the People’s Reform Party (PRP),
 
7. Roy Señeres of the Workers and Peasants Party or Partido ng Manggagawa at Magsasaka (WPPPMM); and

8. Dante Valencia, independent

“The names of Poe and Duterte were included in the list while the Comelec continues to deal with their disqualification cases,” reports Pia Gutierrez on ABS-CBNnews.com.

Meanwhile, there are still six candidates for Vice President:

1. Alan Peter Cayetano, independent

2. Francis Escudero, independent

3. Gregorio Honasan II of UNA

4. Ferdinand Marcos Jr., independent

5. Leni Robredo of LP

6. Antonio Trillanes IV, independent

Meanwhile, there are 52 candidates for senators.

The report noted: “The Comelec clarified that the list it has released is still subject to editing, noting the various cases and issues pending before the poll body.”
