The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has deferred the proclamation of winning Senatorial candidates on Wednesday night.
In a press briefing, Comelec chairman Sixto Brillantes said the poll body has “officially cancelled” the proclamation of senators while the poll body analyzes “what’s happening on the field.” Earlier, the Comelec said their target was to proclaim the winners in the Senate race by Wednesday, 48 hours after the polls.
Brillantes stressed that they would rather wait for a substantial number of votes before making any announcements. Technical problems have further slowed down the transmission of result from various areas. As of press time, the Comelec has canvassed only 21 out of the total 304 certificates of canvass, the Manila Bulletin reported.
