COMELEC Chair Brillantes might resign due to campaign ad airtime

Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Chairman Sixto Brillantes Jr. admitted that he was considering resigning his post after the Supreme Court disallowed the new political ad airtime limits.

He told reporters that he had informed his fellow commissioners that he was taking some time off before meeting with President Benigno Aquino III.

According to Interaksyon.com, the Supreme Court voted 9-6 against the implementation of Comelec Resolution 9615, which set limits of 120 minutes for all TV network ads and 180 minutes for all radio ads.

Local candidates were limited to 60 minutes on TV and 90 minutes on radio. The order in effect reverted to the old limits of 120 minutes for every TV station and 180 minutes for every radio station for national candidates.

Local candidate limits also reverted to 50 minutes for each TV station and 90 minutes for every radio station.
