Colbert raised over US$100,000 for #YolandaPH aid

Last week, Stephen Colbert dared his viewers in the US to match and exceed China’s #YolandaPH donation of US$100,000 to the Philippines. “Seriously, the nation of China pledged only US$100,000? I bet the Colbert nation can give more than that,” Colbert said last week. “You know what folks, nation, let’s do it. Let’s out-donate China!”

The host of The Colbert Robert was able to do just that.

This weekend, Colbert tweeted that they’ve already amassed over US$100,000, beating China’s pledge.

The money was raised on behalf of Convoy for Hope which, Laurie Patton reports on Ozarksfirst.com, has been working in the Philippines for years.

“We have a feeding program there where were feed about 20 thousand children every school day,” Convoy of Hope’s Jeff Nene tells Ozarksfirst.com. “So we had plenty of food. In fact, we already had half a million meals in our Philippine warehouse. So our team there on the ground was able to start immediately.”
