CNN Philippines cameraman shot dead in Cavite

According to a news advisory released by Dabet C. Panelo — National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP) media safety officer — Jonathan Oldan of CNN Philippines was shot dead around 5:15am on, Thu, Jun 25, at Bukaneg St., Brgy. Pinagbuklod, Imus, Cavite.

Oldan — who did double duty as driver and assistant cameraman for CNN Philippines — sustained four gunshot wounds in the head from shots fired by still-unidentified gunmen.

The news advisory noted: “Witnesses said that Oldan was buying cigarettes at a convenience store. They saw him talking to somebody. However, just few minutes later, they saw him running from his assialants.”

The case is now under investigation. The advisory said that “if proven to be work related, Oldan will be the third journalist to be killed this year, the 27th under the Aquino presidency and the 167th since 1986.
