A classroom in the Makati Science High School caught fire last night, moving the school to suspend classes today.

The classroom was on the sixth floor of a building located in Kalayaan Ave. in Makati City’s Barangay (Village) Cembo.

The fire started at around 11:19pm, investigator FO3 Roel Pacubat of the Makati City Fire Station told Coconuts Manila today.

It reached the first alarm at 11:25pm but at 11:38pm, the fire was declared under control by Makati City Fire Marshall Fire Supt. Roy Quisto. The fire was declared out by 11:52pm.

No one got hurt and it was only that one classroom that was damaged.

Pacubat told Coconuts that it was the on-duty school security guard who reported the fire. He said the guard heard something explode inside the classroom.

The damage caused by the fire is pegged to be around PHP20,000 (US$380.56). The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Classes in the school were suspended today, Pacubat said, citing a statement from the school principal.
