The Clark International Airport (CRK) in Angeles City, Pampanga province will resume operations this afternoon after it was damaged due to the strong Luzon earthquake on Monday.

Flights and service in the airport were suspended for almost 48 hours.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Clark International Airport Corp (CIAC) said in a statement today that cleanup and repairs at CRK began yesterday morning, specifically at the pre-departure area where a huge portion of its ceiling collapsed after the 6.1 magnitude quake hit.

The airport’s passenger terminal building and control tower were also repaired.

CIAC President Jaime Melo said that the airport will reopen at 4pm today to attend to affected passengers.

According to the DOTr, the CRK repairs amounted to a total of PHP30million (US$574,402.72). The statement said that approximately 110 flights were affected following the suspension of the airport’s operations.

A new terminal building that is still undergoing construction had no reported damages. Power, flight information systems, and CCTV cameras are also fully restored, the statement added.

The DOTr also posted CCTV footage showing what occurred at the airport when it was rocked by the quake. Watch the video below:

The earthquake was felt in many parts of Luzon including Metro Manila, but Pampanga province, which has been placed under a state of calamity was the most affected. The earthquake has reportedly left 16 people dead, many of whom were in Pampanga.

A lot of netizens took to Twitter to #PrayForPampanga, with one netizen describing the earthquake as “the scariest” he has experienced. In Metro Manila, a lot of high-rise buildings were seen swaying during the quake in videos posted by frightened netizens.
