It turns out that October is Filipino-American History Month. So, now would be a great time to highlight a California city that has paid tribute to Fil-Am community leaders by naming new streets after them.
“So far, the Bay Area city of Alameda has named two streets in new housing development ‘Larry Itliong Lane’ and ‘Philip Vera Cruz Lane’ in honor of the Fil-Am leaders from the historic farm workers movement of the 1960s,” reports Balitang America.
According to the report, “the city’s development board invited residents to help name the streets of the Alameda Landing development. They were asked for names that would honor figures from the city’s diverse communities.”
