Chinese Embassy donates 30 motorized fishing boats to Yolanda survivors

If only all China-Philippines encounters were as touching as this one.

“Earlier this month, the Chinese embassy turned over 30 motorized fishing boats to 30 fishermen from the towns of Isabel, Palompon, and Merida in Leyte,” reports Lalaine Jimenea in The Philippine Star.

The turnover ceremony was held at the Galicano Ruiz Gym in Isabel, Leyte. In his speech, Yu Jun, director general for political affairs of the Chinese embassy, said that the distribution of fishing boats was “part of China’s continuing efforts to help victims of Super Typhoon Yolanda.”

Yu stated, “For thousands of years, China and the Philippines have been good friends and neighbors. In China we have a saying a close neighbor is better than a distant relative… in the spirit of friendship, we believe it is a moral responsibility to help out a friend.”
