“The Department of Agriculture (DA) has given assurances the ‘tight’ supply of chicken will normalize by end of next month, ensuring the stable supply and distribution of chicken before Christmas,” reports Charissa Luci in Manila Bulletin.
During the House Committee on Appropriations hearing on the DA’s proposed PHP88.8 billion budget for 2015, Agriculture Undersecretary for Livestock Jose Reaño was quoted as saying, “To be normal again, we should wait up to September. But in September, we assure, we (will) have enough chicken supply [in Metro Manila].”
Reaño explained that the supply of chicken “was affected by Typhoon Glenda which wrought havoc in many poultry farms, especially in Southern Tagalog and Central Luzon, the country’s biggest poultry producer.”
