Operation Chicken Joy: Like manna from heaven

We’re liking the attention and the subsequent moral boost that this is giving the inhabitants of the Spratlys group of islands.

After Carlos Celdran’s digital initiative, a Facebook page entitled It’s No Fun in Pagasa, “a blue Navy Islander plane dropped packs of Jollibee’s popular Chicken Joy and Jolly Peach Mango pies to the Marine troops at Ayungin Shoal,” reports Jaime Laude in The Philippine Star. “For a change, and to boost the morale of our troops there,” Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief General Emmanuel Bautista was quoted as saying.

Troops in other islands need not worry; they will also have their fair share of the treat soon after.

This is the first time the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has ever included packs of Chicken Joy and other non-perishable products in the re-provisioning operation. Authorities decided on Jollibee because they noticed that after deployment, returning troop members bring their families to a nearest outlet of Jollibee.

Also included in in the sealed provisions, as these food packs are called, “were bundles of letters from pupils of a Puerto Princesa City elementary school, praising the troops for their unselfish sacrifice in protecting the country’s sovereignity in the hotly contested region,” the report noted.

This totally gives new meaning to the classic Jollibee catch phrase “Langhap, sarap!”
