U.S. military and government meteorologists announced that tropical cyclone ‘Chedeng’ (international name: ‘Maysak’) is now a super typhoon.

“According to the US Navy and Air Force’s Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) in Hawaii, Chedeng is expected to make landfall on Sunday, over Aurora province in the Philippines,” reports ABS-CBNnews.com.

The report noted: “The US National Weather Service, which is also monitoring the cyclone in Guam, expects Chedeng’s peak intensity to be at around 287 kilometers per hour, which is equivalent to a Category 5 cyclone.”

The report pointed out that “the Palace on Tuesday, March 31 said the government is prepared for Chedeng.” It added that presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda told reporters that “the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) and its attached agencies are on top of the situation.”

Lacierda stated: “Insofar as the roles of each cabinet agency, alam na po nila ang gagawin, kung kalian aabisuhan ang government units affected. We’ll be able to anticipate and prepare for the oncoming typhoon.”
