Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) spokesperson Hernando Cabrera on Friday showed a sample of the new tickets that will be used in both the Light Rail Transit (LRT) and Metro Rail Transit (MRT).

Cabrera posted photos of the tickets on his Twitter page. One was the sample ‘tap and go’ card that can be used for both LRT and MRT.

Another photo shows a sample of the single journey ticket for LRT-2.

It was earlier announced that a modern ticketing system will be used for the LRT-2 beginning May.

New ticket vending machines will also be installed in LRT-1 and MRT.

The machines can dispense tickets, single journey and stored value card, which can be loaded from P11 to up to P10,000. These cards can last up to 4 years.

Once implemented, the magnetic stripe tickets currently in use will be replaced by contactless, tap-and-go smart cards that come with a microchip much like Hong Kong’s Octopus cards and Singapore’s EZ link.
