Chavit gets permission to travel from Sandiganbayan

But it didn’t come cheap.

“The Sandiganbayan has granted former Ilocos Sur Governor Chavit Singson permit to travel outside the country this month after he posted a PHP270,000 travel bond,” reports Jeffrey Damicog in Manila Bulletin.

According to the report, “Singson was allowed to travel to Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore from May 11 to 15 then make another trip to Hong Kong from May 17 to 19.”

Singson was initially prevented from traveling out of the country because he has been charged with three counts of violating Section 3(e) of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act (Republic Act 3019).

The repot explained that “the Office of the Ombudsman had accused Singson of unlawfully granting in 2001 a total of PHP16 million financial assistance to the Multi-line Food Processing International Inc. (MFPII) in violation of Commission on Audit (COA) Circular No. 95-003 since the entity was neither a non-government organization (NGO) nor people’s organization (PO).” Singson had been the governor of Ilocs Sur during that time.
