Changing of U-turn slots part of “urban growth,” says MMDA chief

Tip to Metro Manila motorists: Don’t get attached to U-turn slots.

In an interview with the Presidential Broadcast Staff on Tuesday, Oct 29, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairman Francis Tolentino explained that the “changing designations of U-turn slots around the capital is a way to adapt to urban growth.

Say what?

“Tolentino explained that U-turn slots change to aid traffic flow in areas made prone to clogging as new buildings or commercial centers are constructed,” reports Camille Diola in The Philippine Star.

Tolentino also added that the opening or closing of some U-turn slots “also depends on the season such as in cases of holiday rush or sudden surge of motorists at certain times of the day.”

Now, we’re really baffled!

Then again, the report did point out the fact that “the MMDA has been blamed in the past for some faulty traffic management plans.”
