Cement transit mixers to carry warning signs

The Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Saturday signed an agreement with cement mixer trucks which requires transit mixers to have warning signs. According to MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino, “Loaded with Cement — Keep Distance” signs would be prominently displayed on trucks. Chairman Tolentino said that the signs would alert motorists and pedestrians to keep distance from the heavy trucks.

The agreement was prompted by the large number of incidents involving cement mixers and other heavy equipment. According to the Philippine Star, there were 1,512 vehicular accidents involving heavy equipment reported during the first quarter of 2013, with 12 casualties and 268 injured.
