Lawyer Lorna Kapunan has expressed her intention to run for senator in the 2016 elections “if given the opportunity.”

“Panahon na. Naririnig naman natin ang Senado, siguro kailangan naman ng pagbabago (It’s time. We’ve heard the Senate, so maybe it needs some change),” Kapunan said in an interview on radio DZMM. “I owe it to myself to start serving in some other ways.”

According to Kapunan, she will run under Aksyon Demokratiko, the party of the late Raul Roco.

“We are reviving the party of Raul Roco, Aksyon Demokratiko,” she said, adding that she is currently the party’s lone senatorial candidate.

Kapunan also said she is open to alliances with like-minded candidates, like Justice Secretary Leila de Lima, who was Kapunan’s former law partner and was the secretary of Aksyon Demokratiko.

“I do not have this conversation with Leila. That is her decision. Whether the party will support one or either of the candidate is a party decision,” she added.

According to Kapunan, she will go by her party’s “transformational” process of campaigning — just like how it was during Roco’s time.

“Ang resource lang namin ay sipag, at sabi nga ni Senator Roco, transformational. The process of campaigning and running for public office must be in itself a transformational process, for the people you talk to are inspired,” she added.

She then likened her senatorial bid to buying a sweepstakes ticket.

“You know, to us, dapat tumaya (you have to take the risk). It is like buying a sweepstakes ticket. You cannot expect to win the sweepstakes if you do not buy a ticket. What I feel I should do is I should at least buy a ticket and stop complaining about the traffic, stop complaining about corruption, stop complaining, if I myself do not contribute to the solution of the problem,” Kapunan explained.
