Lawyer Lorna Kapunan is throwing her hat in the senatorial race in 2016.
Speaking to reporters on Wed, Jun 17, Kapunan said she believes now is the time for her to render public service, having engaged in the practice of law for 38 years.
Kapunan, 68, has become known for her high-profile clients, including celebrities Coco Martin, Marjorie and Julia Barretto, James Yap, and Hayden Kho.
She also used to be the legal counsel of alleged pork barrel scam mastermind Janet Lim Napoles in the serious illegal detention case filed by whistleblower Benhur Luy.
According to the so-called “celebrity lawyer,” the letter “K” in her name stands for “karapatan” or right.
“Karapatan sa edukasyon, magkaroon ng bahay, karapatang tumakbo,” Kapunan said.
Just like Kapunan, lawyer Harry Roque recently revealed his plan to run in the senatorial elections next year.
Roque, counsel of the family of slain Jennifer Laude, said he wants to bring activism to the chambers of the Senate for human rights, education, women’s rights and freedom of speech.
He said Vice President Jejomar Binay has offered him a slot in the slate of the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA).
Kapunan, for her part, did not say if she has been offered to run under the administration Liberal Party (LP).
