Lucky woman.

San Fernando, Cebu Mayor Lakambini Reluya survived an ambush last night when her van was gunned down by unidentified assailants in Barangay (Village) Linao in Talisay City.

However, three of Reluya’s companions, including her husband Barangay (Village) Chairman Ricardo Reluya Jr., died on the spot when the unidentified assailants shot at their white Toyota Hi-Ace Van at 6pm, Rappler reported.

The other two who died were identified as their driver Allan Bayot and Ricky Monterona, a member of the mayor’s staff, the Philippine Star reported.

A witness told ABS-CBN News that the assailants fled the crime scene aboard a white Toyota Innova.

Talisay City Police Chief Supt. Marlu Conag told CNN Philippines that six people, including Lakambini, were aboard the van when the incident happened.

Lakambini, along with two others identified as Jovanie Perez and Tolentin Jefer, suffered minor injuries and were brought to the Talisay District Hospital for treatment.

Conag said that the Cebu town mayor had a gunshot wound on her arm, the Philippine Star reported.

Conag also said that Lakambini thinks the attack may have been politically-motivated, ABS-CBN News reported. The Cebu town mayor is seeking reelection in May’s mid-term elections, while her husband Ricardo was supposed to run as vice mayor.

Authorities have yet to identify the suspects. Meanwhile, security was heightened at the Talisay District Hospital where the Cebu town mayor and her two companions are recuperating.
