Cebu soccer game brawl goes viral

When adults get in the act, child’s play turns into something else.

“Last Sunday, Mar 16, an under-18 football game in Cebu ended in violence when three players of the Alcoy Football Club were allegedly attacked by parents of players from the opposing team, Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC),” reports ABS-CBNnews.com.

Citing Sun.Star Cebu, the report said that the three players of Alcoy FC are planning to file child abuse charges against the parents who allegedly attacked them.

How did it all start?

According to a Sun.Star Cebu article by Edri K. Aznar and Mike T. Limpag, “it started with the trash-talking then it escalated.”

The Sun.Star report noted: “A parent who witnessed the incident said said one player from Alcoy threw a punch, while another supporter got into the field, triggering the free-for-all. While this was happening, there was also another incident involving the goalkeeper and an Ateneo player, who got rescued by his father. Then, Another outsider stepped in to help calm the tension but the goalkeeper already got struck in the head, opening a gash.”

That wasn’t all.

The report went on to reveal: “One Alcoy player got ganged up on because he ran to the Ateneo bench, while another ran all the way to the other field, where another game was being played.”

Then, the parents themselves got in the act, with some reportedly calling their so-called “allies” to back them up.
