Sometime in May, Cebu City mayor Tomas Osmeña started dangling a PHP50,000 reward for every slain criminal in his area. As part of his fight against criminality, cops were rewarded for killing and wounding individuals involved in drugs, theft and other petty crimes.
On Thurs, Jul 14, however, Osmeña announced that he would no longer give cash rewards.
Why? He was not happy with the recent revamp of officers in the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7), Inquirer reports.
“I have reservations about the reshuffling of the policemen who have done so much for our peace and order in just 2 months, but let’s give the new police leadership a chance to show what they can do,” Osmeña posted on his Facebook page.
He’s also said that he’s keeping his hands off the police anti-crime and anti-drugs campaign.
“Daghan man ang bright diha. Sila na lang ang magbuot (There are many bright people there. Let them decide),” he told a news conference.
Cebu City Police Director Benjamin Santos was reliefed of his position in line with Philippine National Police (PNP) Director General Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa’s orders to revamp the police force nationwide.
