Being productive seems to be doing wonders for them.
“The famous inmates of the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center are no longer just the ‘dancing inmates’ — they are now the ‘baking inmates’ too,” reports GMA News Online.
The report noted: “After opening their bakery at the CPDRC, the inmates promised to introduce to the world their ensaymada, hopia, and siakoy.”
Marco Toral, a security consultant for the CPDRC, explained that the bakery occupies a space that was once a barangay outpost.
He said in Filipino: “The barangay outpost located right outside the CPDRC compound wasn’t being used. We asked the barangay chairman if we could use it as out outlet.”
According to one of CPDRC’s most respected inmates, Lito Granada, the income from the bakery will go to acquiring medicine and supplies for the clinic.”
