The Mabuhay Manor Hotel in Pasay City had its New Year kicked off on a terrifying note when armed robbers barged into the establishment early yesterday morning.

According to a report in the Philippine Star, four armed men entered brandishing pistols, with one of them also taking the .38 revolver from the security guard on duty.

The robbers then proceeded to take PHP33,000 (US$660) from the front desk cash register, then PHP790,000 (US$15,800) in cash and gadgets valued at around PHP350,000 (US$7,000) from a family staying at the hotel. From other guests, they took a luxury watch valued at PHP1.497 million (US$30,000), and jewelry valued at PHP1.495 million (US$29,950).

According to GMA News, the Philippine National Police ordered a manhunt for the escaped subjects.

“This is the first incident that happened this year. We would like to make sure that no other incident will happen again in the future,” National Capital Region Police Office spokesperson Chief Inspector Kimberly Molitas told reporters yesterday.

The Manila Bulletin posted CCTV footage of the incident on YouTube.

The Mabuhay Manor, located on FB Harrison Street near old Manila, calls itself “the first balikbayan hotel,” catering mainly to balikbayans (Filipinos who return to the country for vacation).
