CBCP says scary Halloween costumes are ‘pure evil’

It looks like the members of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) aren’t fans of Halloween.

“Earlier this week, the CBCP discouraged the public from turning Halloween into a scary event,” reports Evelyn Macairan in The Philippine Star.

“The wearing of scary masks and knives embedded in the neck is pure evil and it is a like you are seducing the Diablo,” said Fr. Francis Lucas, executive secretary of CBCP-Episcopal Commission on Social Communication and Mass Media.

Lucas didn’t stop there. He went on to say, “How can you talk to God if the dress you are wearing makes you look like a Diablo?”

According to Lucas, since the word “hallow” also means “blessed,” then it makes sense if people just wore costumes that are “patterned after the clothes of saints.”

And the joke writes itself.
