“Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announced that the annual Lyrids meteor shower, one of the most awaited and spectacular cosmic spectacles, will dazzle the night sky this April 22 to 23,” reports Ellalyn De Vera in Manila Bulletin.
The report noted: “PAGASA added that said the meteor shower will be best observed from the evening of April 22 to the early morning of April 23. It will reach its peak at around 1:30 a.m. on April 23.”
The report added that “the Lyrids meteor shower has been observed for more than 2,600 years.” Its name is derived from the constellation of Lyra, which is, as the report indicated “the radiant point from which most of the meteors appear to originate from during the shower.”
