Khan of Finland at Manila Fringe on Feb 24

It’s hard to predict what will happen when Khan of Finland is around.

Like many modern artists, Khan (also known as Can Oral) does everything. He is a film/music producer, performer, actor and visual artist.

He started out in the 1990s, when he ran his own record shop and three label records. He performed with and produced music for celebrated artists in New York’s East Village.

He’s been unstopabble from there.

At FringeML, the weeks-long independent arts festival currently ripping through town, Khan presents Angels of Disguise, a pay-what-you-want (recommended donation is PHP1,000) mini-musical about digital enlightenment and, if we got it right, gay cruising.

“We create various identities through internet profiles that will outlive our physical lives on planet earth and at the same time we jump from our sexual identity to our working or family lives,” he says.

Khan, who was flown here by Philippine Airlines, will stage a theatrical reading of Angels of Disguisde accompanied with video, found audio and photo-footage and live musical performances.

He will also be manning the booth at Black Market for a night.

Angels of Disguise is on Feb 24, 9pm, at Pineapple Lab, 6071 Palma Street, Makati; www.fringemanila.com.
Can Oral spins at Blackmarket on Feb 25, 12am, at Warehouse 5, La Fuerza Compound, Sabio St, Makati, www.facebook.com.
