Be careful who you put in charge of cash.
“On Saturday, Mar 29, Ofelia Brazas, 33, was nabbed by operatives of the Quezon City Police District’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit for stealing PHP572,000 from the St. John Biocare and Dialysis Center Foundation Inc. on Quezon Avenue,” reports J.I. Andrade in the Philippine Daily Inquirer.
Brazas had served as the clinic’s cashier since September 2013. Apparently, she stole from the clinic’s cash collections from October to December 2013 and February and March 2014. She would then submit to the clinic’s administrators fake deposit slips from two banks where the clinic had accounts.
Brazas’ scheme was was discovered only last week, after a member of the clinic’s accounting staff, Florifel Sisican, conducted an audit.
Police said Brazas has confessed to the theft. She explained that she was having money problems.
