Camiguin Representative Pedro Romualdo passed away on Wednesday after being confined at the Makati Medical Center for pneumonia.
House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr. expressed his sympathy to Romualdo’s family and home province. “The House of Representatives has been like a second home to Congressman Romulado, having served here from 1987 to this day. The years he had been away from the House — 1998 to 2007 — was still spent in service to his constituents, as governor of Camiguin,” Belmonte said in an official statement.
Belmonte said Romualdo’s “statesmanship and wit will be missed at the plenary hall and in the various committees where he maintained an active presence.”
According to a Sun Star Online report, the viewing of Romualdo’s remains will be at the Assumption on Araneta Avenue, Quezon City.
The report notes Romualdo, who had been running for reelection under the Nationalist People’s Coalition, opposed passage of the Freedom of Information bill. Romualdo questioned the presence of a quorum when the FOI bill was supposed to be ratified. This kept Congress from passing the bill.
