Let’s hope Caloy won’t turn out to be another Yolanda.
“Eleven areas have been placed under public storm warning Signal No. 1 as tropical depression Caloy accelerated slightly as it continued to move closer to Surigao del Sur and Davao Oriental in eastern Mindanao late Friday morning, Mar 21,” reports Jaime Sinapit on InterAksyon.com.
As such, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the following places are under Signal No. 1:
1. Davao Oriental
2. Davao del Norte
3. Compostela Valley
4. Davao del Sur (northern part)
5. Davao City
6. Surigao del Sur
7. Surigao del Norte
8. Agusan del Sur
9. Agusan del Norte
10. North Cotabato
11. Bukidnon
12. Misamis Oriental
The said areas will experience 3 to 60 kph winds, which, according to the report, “are strong enough to break twigs and branches, significantly damage rice crops in the flowering stage, unroof nipa or cogon houses, and make travel by fishing boats and other small sea craft risky.”
