A new jail, please.
That’s on top of the new head of the Caloocan City Jail’s wish list after he asked city councilors for funds “to build a new detention center,” reports Nathaniel Melican in Philippine Daily Inquirer.
Supt. Paulino Moreno made the appeal to city councilors during a courtesy call, explaining that the present city jail in Dagat-dagatan was well beyond its capacity of 150 detainees. The facility, built in the 1990s had 12 cells that can accommodate nine persons each; today, the same space is occupied by at least 100 persons.
He proposed putting up the new jail in North Caloocan since most of the detainees hail from there and it would be much nearer to the Metropolitan Trial Court there.
That would be a perfect match with the new Caloocan city hall that’s also being planned.
