Calamba carnage: Baby and helper stabbed dead by robbers

Why do thieves have to kill the people they rob, too? There certainly wasn’t any need to kill anyone in this case.

“An eight-month-old baby Mark Daniel Zindia and househelper Teresita Beth Torres died after three robbers stabbed them while sleeping inside their house in Barangay Lawa in Calamba, Laguna,” reports Ferdinand F. Castro in Tempo.

According to Supt. Marvin Joe Saro, Calamba City police chief, the baby’s mother, Cecilia Zindai, is now confined at Calamba Doctor’s Hospital due to several knife wounds in the body and head injuries.

Cecilia had played dead after she was hit with a steel bar in the head. When she felt that the robbers had left, she ran to her neighbors. Unfortunately, her baby and house helper were already dead by then.

Police said that “a 17-year-old girl, who was hired as a housemaid for the Zindia family only last February, was surrendered by her relatives to the police at about 6am on Wednesday, April 23, after Cecilia identified her as one of the suspects.” The girl likewise identified one of the suspects as Kevin Devera, 22, former driver of the Zindia family.

Devera was soon arrested as well, but police have yet to identify the two other suspects who are still at large.
