They team said they will finish the conference, play their remaining games in honor of Pua, and then quit the league. The Cagayan Valley Rising Suns has been part of the PBA D-league for three years already.
“There is no excuse for what happened last Thursday. We’re sorry it happened. Coach Alvin’s emotions got the better of him…We just hope that this incident will finally serve as a wake up call to the D-League and that it will make them see that indeed there is incompetence and inefficiency with its officiating. We are not the only team to complain about this. Even teams in the PBA share the same sentiments,” the Inquirer report quoted a portion of the team’s statement.
On Thursday during Cagayan Valley’s game against Livermarin, Pua, who is notorious for punching referees, lived up to his reputation and punched yet another one. The referee was taken to a hospital, and Pua was fined PHP500,000.
