A Cagayan de Oro mayor’s son has been arrested after he was found in possession of party drugs in Angeles City, Pampanga, the police reported yesterday

Suspect Sean Moreno, 43 years old, is the son of Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Oscar Moreno. He was arrested with seven other people when they were found with about PHP1 million (US$19,569.83) worth of party drugs on June 29, Saturday, reports state.

This allegedly included at least 310 suspected ecstasy tablets, at least five pieces of suspected DMT, at least 87 pieces of suspected valium, at least two plastic sachets of suspected kush or hybrid marijuana, one plastic sachet of suspected shabu (meth), one sachet of suspected cocaine, and one plastic sachet of suspected Psilocybin Mushroom.

Authorities also confiscated drug paraphernalia, a weighing scale, and a Mitsubishi Lancer.

The suspects were arrested in a buy-bust operation where an anti-drug operative posed as a buyer of PHP200,000 (US$3,913.97) worth of DMT, a psychedelic drug. The operation happened after a month of surveillance and with the help of an informant.

Sean lives in BF Homes, a gated community in Metro Manila’s Las Piñas City, The Manila Bulletin reported. Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Regional Office 3 Public Information Officer Glenn Guillermo also told ABS-CBN News that the suspects were actually based in Manila and were only in Pampanga for a delivery.

The group was allegedly a major party drug supplier in Angeles City, Guillermo said, according to SunStar.

Apart from possessing illegal drugs, Sean also reportedly tested positive for shabu and ecstasy.

The suspects are now detained at the PDEA Regional Office 3 and have been charged for violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Mayor Moreno confirmed in a statement sent to the media that Sean is his son and expressed support for him.

“Even if he has gone astray, Sean is still my son, whom I took very special care since his birth,” he said.

“I will endlessly continue to struggle thinking about what led him to this. This is a very difficult time that Sean and the family are going through. But we have [to] deal with this, and we pray that Sean will still have a bright tomorrow. Thus, in spite of the pains and hurts, I remain [undeterred] in believing that God will show Sean the way. And we will unqualifiedly support him.”
