Thou shall not covet thy neighbor’s cable.
The National Telecommunications Commission has issued implementing guidelines of the cable television and Internet tapping law, which prohibits the unauthorized access to the service. Commissioner Gamaliel Cordoba released the guidelines as the government intensifies its campaign against cable signal theft.
Violators face a jail term of two to five years, and a fine of as much as PHP100,000. Cable signal theft is rampant in different communities, just like electricity and water pilferage, where users expose the cables and divert the signal to other houses without permission from utility companies.
