Cable pilferage is now a crime, not a clever way to save money

If you have an illegal cable TV or cable Internet connection, you have a little more than two weeks left to have it cut or face prison time and a fine of up to P100,000.

President Benigno Aquino III has signed the Anti-Cable Television and Cable Internet Tapping Act into law. That means tapping into someone else’s cable connection is now a crime.

According to a Sun Star Online report, violating the new law will mean imprisonment of from two to five years and a fine of from P50,000 to P100,000.

Corporations that steal their cable TV or cable Internet connections will open up their executives to liability.

Aside from making tapping cable connections a punishable offence, the new law also penalizes the malicious destruction and removal of cable TV or cable Internet facilities.
