“Microsoft will pull the plug off its Windows XP and Office 2003 on April 8, 2014, effectively ending its customer support for the over-a-decade old operating system and desktop application,” reports Jose Bimbo F. Santos on InterAksyon.com.
The report quoted Mae R. Moreno, Microsoft Philippines Windows Client Lead, who said, “Windows XP and Office 2003 were widely used and have helped people to get productive for both work play. But 12 years later, the way people use technology has evolved. Just like you cannot imagine yourself using a mobile phone which is 12 years old, Windows XP and Office 2003 are no longer adequate for the new, ‘always-on’ world we live in.”
The report explained that “the termination means that there will be no more technical service assistance and security patches for both products.”
It’s the end of an era.
