As the saying goes, “Nothing is certain but death and taxes.” In fact, some people joke that cheating death is easier than cheating on taxes.
“Businessman Antonio ‘Tony’ Tiu — who claimed ownership of the sprawling property in Rosario, Batangas that allegedly belonged to Vice President Jejomar Binay — is facing tax evasion charges,” reports Jun Ramirez in Manila Bulletin.
The report noted: “In a criminal complaint filed, January 21, before the Department of Justice, Commissioner Kim S. Jacinto-Henares of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) said Antonio Lee Tiu was sued for alleged non-payment of income tax amounting to PHP73.3 million.”
Henares explained that Tiu was charged “for willful attempt to evade or defeat tax and deliberate failure to supply correct information in his annual income tax return (ITR) for 2008 and willful failure to file his ITR for 2013 in violation of Sections 254 and 255 of the Tax Code.”
