“The Bureau of Customs stands to earn about PHP1 billion more by putting on auction at least 83 shipments seized in 2013 due to technical smuggling,” reports Joel E. Zurbano in Manila Standard Today.
The shipments contain an array of goods such sugar, rice, flour, computer laptops, bags, toys, ready-to-wear garments, plastic resin, tiles, and used clothing.
The report said that “under the rules, Customs can declare any shipment as overstaying and abandoned after the consignee or importer failed to secure their release after 30 days.”
