BRP Ramon Alcaraz reaches Philippine waters

BRP Ramon Alcaraz, an ex-US Coast Guard cutter, has arrived in Philippine territory from Guam, the last stop of its voyage from South Carolina.

According to the ship’s blog, which members of the Philippine Navy public affairs office have updated from aboard the ship, Alcaraz crossed into the Philippines “around midnight” Friday.

“We are now steaming at vicinity 405 nautical miles Southeast off Casiguran, Aurora. With all engines ahead standard, we are underway with a speed of 13 knots and heading to a course of 275 degrees true. Yes, that reference ‘Aurora’ is the Aurora Province in the Philippines!,” the blog’s latest entry read.

The ship is steaming towards Subic in Zambales.

The Alcaraz joins the BRP Gregorio Del Pilar, also a former US Coast Guard patrol ship, as the Navy’s newest assets.
