San Juan Police Station’s PO2 Julius Abu first told Coconuts Manila through a phone interview that the victim was an unidentified male officer riding a motorcycle.
However, he was eventually identified as Police Senior Master Sgt. Solomon Cugay.
The Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said on its social media accounts that the incident happened along the EDSA southbound lane at 3:31pm.
He was shot multiple times and cops found seven bullet cases in the crime scene, Police Brigadier General Christopher Tambungan told reporters, according to Rappler.
National Capital Region Police Office chief Major General Guillermo Eleazar said they are currently looking into the victim’s alleged illegal drug links, ABS-CBN News reported.
Cugay was part of the regional drug enforcement unit from 2015 to 2016 but was moved to an administrative division that deals with doctrine development.
Found in the scene was a cellphone that the police will investigate. They also plan to review CCTV footage from the area.
