Hidilyn Diaz has won the gold medal in the women’s weightlifting competition at the Tokyo Olympics, an Olympic first for the Philippines.
In the process, she has set two Olympic records: 127kg in the Clean & Jerk event and 224 for her final score.
Prior to this, the Philippines had the dubious distinction of being the second most medals without winning gold, behind Malaysia. Boxing has been our top medal-producing sport.
Mabuhay, Hidilyn!
