There’s no better way to keep people from throwing trash on the street than to make them pay for it.
“The Metro Manila Council, the policy-making body of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), has approved a resolution, urging local government units to deputize local environmental enforcers in their respective areas,” reports Anna Liza Villas-Alavaren in the Manila Bulletin.
These environmental cops — who are responsible for the implementation and enforcement of the provisions of The Ecological Solid Waste Management Act — will issue environmental violation receipts (EVRs) to persons caught throwing garbage or any kind of waste in open or public places.
