Bravo! There’s a crackdown on Metro Manila litterbugs

There’s no better way to keep people from throwing trash on the street than to make them pay for it.

“The Metro Manila Council, the policy-making body of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), has approved a resolution, urging local government units to deputize local environmental enforcers in their respective areas,” reports Anna Liza Villas-Alavaren in the Manila Bulletin.

These environmental cops — who are responsible for the implementation and enforcement of the provisions of The Ecological Solid Waste Management Act — will issue environmental violation receipts (EVRs) to persons caught throwing garbage or any kind of waste in open or public places.
