A 10-year-old boy with special needs died after he was hit by a passenger bus while crossing the South Luzon Expressway (SLEx) in Calamba City, Laguna, on Tue morning, Jun 14.
It is illegal for pedestrians to cross the SLEx highway.
“The boy was hit by an RRCG bus that was going through Purok Kwatro in Barangay Turbina at around 9am,” reports Aya Parole on ABS-CBNnews.com.
Police Officer 3 (PO3) Farissa Musama of the Laguna Highway Patrol Group related in Filipino: “The RRCG bus driver was taken by surprise when the boy suddenly crossed SLEx. The bus passengers confirmed that he was not overspeeding. It’s just that the driver could not do anything as the boy was right in front of the bus.”
The boy’s father admitted that he had not been able to restrain his son, whom he said had special needs.
The family lives near the SLEx and the boy crossed simply because a four-year-old kid allegedly asked him to do so.
The boy’s family decided not to pursue charges against the bus driver who promised to shoulder the boy’s burial expenses.
However, the police said the bus driver will still have to face a complaint for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide.
