Two fishermen got an unexpected catch yesterday when they found a box filled with suspected cocaine floating in the waters of Vinzons town in Camarines Norte, Bicol region.

The two were identified as father and son Alfredo Vega Sr. and Alfredo Vega Jr.The Philippine Daily Inquirer reported. They found the box while fishing, Bombo Radyo reported. It happened at around 11:55am yesterday in Quinamnucan Island, the same Inquirer report states.

The two thought the box was suspicious, so they surrendered it to barangay (village officials), who then gave it to the police.

A laboratory test confirmed that it was indeed cocaine inside the box, Radyo Inquirer reported. Upon investigation, authorities also found that the box contained about 1 kilo of cocaine worth around PHP5 million (US$96,214.12).

In April last year, fishermen found a plastic container with almost PHP200 million (US$3.8 million) worth of cocaine, also in the Bicol region.
