A boulder rolled down from the mountain and hit a sports utility vehicle (SUV) which was traversing Kennon Road in Tuba, Benguet yesterday.

The boulder reportedly had a height of about 10 feet which fell on the back of the vehicle, the Sunstar stated.

Tuba Municipal Police Station’s Facebook page added that the incident happened around 11:10 am at Sitio Tukang in Camp 3 of the route.

The driver, Police Officer 2 (PO2) Jefferson Cadap was left uninjured.

His wife Ginaly Cadap, as well as their children two-year-old Zech and four-year-old Xiehl, sustained minor injuries and were brought to the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center after, reported the Philippine Daily Inquirer.

Philippine Star adds that Kennon Road was opened on Saturday at 8:30 am after it was closed to traffic on Friday due to the risk of possible landslides brought by heavy rains from the southwest monsoon.

The road was closed again on Sunday at noontime for clearing operations. Police Chief Inspector James Acod, chief of the Tuba Municipal Police Station, told Rappler that the road was reopened again on Sunday after the boulder was removed from the road at 3:40 pm.

Kennon Road is the shortest route to Baguio City from Manila but it has become unsafe due to frequent landslides that commonly occur during the rainy season. The alternative Marcos Highway is longer but is wider and considered safer.
