Botswana opens consulate in PH

More and more countries want to be our friends. (They must think we’re fun.)

“On Monday, June 16, the Botswana Consulate in Makati City formally opened,” reports Roy Mabasa in Manila Bulletin.

Botswana Ambassador to Japan Jacob Nkate, who has jurisdiction over the Philippines and Southeast Asia, was quoted as saying, “It has been a long held dream to open an honorary consular office in (Metro) Manila. A lot of work is going forward as we are already engaged in talks with some Philippine business people, doing ways to improve accessibility of Botswana to the Philippine population and vice versa.”

Nkate said that “on top of the agenda is the granting of a visa-waiver agreement between the Philippines and Botswana not only for diplomatic and official passport holders but also for tourists.”

It’s all still in the works so we’re keeping our fingers crossed.
