Inspired by the popularity of a toilet-themed cafe in Taiwan, businessman Jovic Garcia decided to bring the experience closer to Filipinos by opening his own version of the “toilet cafe” in the island of Boracay.
The Boracay Toilet Restaurant features bathtubs turned into benches and toilet bowls turned into chairs. Chamber pots and toilet pumps have also been turned into ligting fixtures. The food and drinks are also served in plates and platters that are shaped like miniature toilet bowls, urinals, and such.
Restaurant co-owner Timmy Young said, “[When it comes to food], what better cuisine that our own [Filipino food]? So, we can highlight our cuisine to the rest of the world.”
The restaurant’s chef is Mark Joseph Martinez.
The restaurant, however, has “renamed” some classic Pinoy dishes. For instance, their version of Bistek Tagalog is called. “Pee-steak Tagalog.” Hmmm…the reference to “pee” may take getting used to. From a Rated K report.
