Bomb hoax count: 21 fake threats since start of 2014

Fake bomb threats are, indeed, “hot” in Metro Manila.

“National Capital Regional Police Office (NCRPO) records show that there have been 21 reported (fake) bomb threats in Metro Manila since the start of the year,” reports Niña P. Calleja in the Philippine Daily Inquirer.

As it turns out, nine out of the 21 bomb hoax incidents were directed at schools—the latest being the Makati National High School.

This prompted NCRPO director Chief Supt. Carmelo Valmoria to call for a meeting with school administrators on Thursday, Mar 13. The report said at least 30 school representatives were present at the meeting.

Based on the school administrators’ feedback, the NCRPO has begun drafting a set of procedures that schools could follow to complement the police response. The police emphasized though that schools can also come up with their own security procedures for the threats.
